☕ Sippin’ Sunday: Fiesta, Family & Filling My Cup πΊππ
This weekend, I hit pause on the hustle and gave myself a full-on San Antonio-style staycation — right in the middle of Fiesta.
And let me tell you — it was exactly what my creative soul needed.
What Even Is Fiesta? πͺ
π
If you’re not from here, picture this: An 11-day explosion of color, music, food, culture, parades, and puro San Antonio pride.
Originally started in 1891 to honor the heroes of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto, Fiesta San Antonio has grown into the city’s biggest celebration — with proceeds going to scholarships, non-profits, and community programs.
It’s joyful. It’s loud. It’s gloriously extra. It’s puro SA!! And we LOVE it.
Staycation Highlights
To soak in the full experience, I stayed at the Emily Morgan Hotel — a historic, slightly spooky icon right next to the Alamo. (Yes, I absolutely peeked down the hallway for ghosts and heard things at night but no regrets.) π¨π»
We had dinner at Lone Star CafΓ© overlooking the Riverwalk — the gorgeous day the big as your head-chicken fried steak, and the skinny margarita? Yes, pls! 10/10. πΉ
And then we headed to the Fiesta Flambeau Parade, the largest illuminated night parade in the U.S.
Y’all — the energy, the floats, the lights… it was magic. People were dancing, yelling, waving confetti sticks, and yes — shouting the iconic:
“SHOW US YOUR SHOES!” π π’π©΄
(A Fiesta tradition where parade royalty proudly flash their decked-out, bedazzled, over-the-top shoes to the crowd. It’s weird. It’s wonderful. It’s so SA.)
Let’s Talk Fiesta Food, Though
You can’t not mention the food. I mean… Fiesta cuisine is a personality.
Some crowd favorites:
- Chicken on a stick (with a jalapeΓ±o, obviously)
- TURKEY LEGS
- Gorditas
- Churros (sugar-coated joy)
- Street tacos
- Corn in a cup (because this is still Texas)
- It’s a whole vibe.
No Crafting, Just Creating Memories
This weekend, I didn’t make a thing. But I came home full of new ideas and a big ol’ grin.
Sometimes creativity comes from stepping away from the craft table and into real life — from lights, color, laughter, and churro-fueled inspiration.
Final Thoughts
This Sippin’ Sunday was about more than a break. It was about tradition. About family. About joy.
Fiesta reminded me that creativity is a whole-body experience — one that needs to be fed with music, culture, and community. (And maybe chicken on a stick.)
VIVA FIESTA!
Until next time,
Jecca
