✨ Flex Friday: Wellness, Rest & Why Slowing Down Fuels the Hustle 👍🏽☁️☕️💛
There’s this thing no one tells you when you start juggling a full-time job and a side business:
Rest isn’t a luxury — it’s a requirement. 🛑💆🏽♀️
Over the last couple of weekends, I finally gave myself a little breathing room.
Family time, quiet moments, less hustle, more peace. 🌿✨
And this week? I went all in. I took a full day off — not just from my 9–5, but from Rise Up too. 🙅🏽♀️💻
No orders. No Canva. No posting. Just me.
Lunch at my own pace with my sis. 🥗
A few errands without rushing. 🛒
No pressure, no lists, no multitasking.
And let me tell you…I didn’t even realize how much I needed it until I felt myself exhale. 🧘🏽♀️
Here’s what I’ve realized: 👍🏽
When you’re constantly creating, planning, working (and let’s be honest — stressing), it’s easy to believe the lie that says “You have to keep going.” 🚨🚀
But the truth is: You can’t be your best, most creative self when you’re running on fumes.
✨ You can’t pour into others when your own cup is dry. ☕️
✨ You can’t serve your customers when your spirit is stretched thin. 💔
And the work I create when I am rested, nourished, and recharged?
It’s clearer. Stronger. More me. ✨🎨
So how do you actually do it? 🤷🏽♀️✨
This doesn’t happen by accident — trust me.
It takes intention. Boundaries. And yes, sometimes treating your rest like a VIP event that gets its own spot on the calendar. 🗓️💫
Here’s what’s working for me (and maybe it’ll help you too):
Be intentional with your time.
Not every moment has to be productive. If you need rest, take it. If you want a slow morning? Honor it. ☁️☕️
Block the time.
Whether it’s a solo Target run or Starbucks or 30 minutes to do nothing — put it on the calendar and protect it like any other meeting. 🛍️📅
Put yourself first — without guilt.
There’s no such thing as being “too busy” to take care of yourself. Self-care is not selfish. In fact, it’s the most sustainable thing you can do for your creativity, your health, and your hustle. 💛🙌
Start small.
You don’t need an elaborate routine. Maybe it’s a quiet lunch. A short walk. A phone-free afternoon. Small pauses still make a big difference. 🧘🏽♀️
Final Thoughts 💭
At the nonprofit organization I work for, wellness isn’t just a talking point — it’s part of the culture. And with May being Mental Health Awareness Month, this feels like the perfect time to say:
Take a break. Take the day. Take the time.
Your to-do list will wait — but your wellbeing shouldn’t. 🌼
You are the heart of your business. Take care of that heart — because when you do, everything else shines brighter. ✨
Until next time,
Jecca 💕
