✈️ Crafting on the Go: How I Handle Orders While Traveling

Let’s be real—running a small business doesn’t stop just because you’ve got plans, a trip, or in my case… a weekend cheering on my superstar niece Gracie at her roller skating competition. (She crushed it, by the way. Proud Tia Moment™.)

But even while I was away from home, my shop didn’t slow down—I got four or five Etsy orders in a matter of days. And you know what?

I made it work.

You can absolutely handle orders while you’re on the go—with a little planning, a little communication, and a lot of grace.

Here’s how I do it:

🕰️ Step 1: Build in Buffer Time

Before I even packed my bag, I updated my Etsy processing times.

I always give myself a cushion—usually 1 to 2 business days—so that if life throws me a detour (or a glitter explosion), I’ve got time to breathe and still meet expectations.

That extra day of processing time?

It’s not about slacking—it’s about delivering without panic.

💬 Step 2: Communicate Like a Human (Not a Bot)

Etsy does automatically notify customers when you ship, but I like to go the extra step.

As soon as I get an order while I’m away, I send a personal message to the customer:

  1. I thank them for their order
  2. Let them know exactly when it’ll be dropped off
  3. And yes… I even include a picture of the package all packed and ready to go. 📦✨

It’s my way of saying,

“Hey, I’m a real person. I care about your order. And yes, it’s on its way.”

Customers always appreciate it—because let’s face it, the personal touch matters.

📦 Step 3: Batch Prep, Pack, and Drop

Once I got back from the weekend, I got right to work.

Sunday night: I packaged every order

Monday morning: I messaged each customer and dropped the goods at the post office

By planning ahead and communicating clearly, I was able to enjoy my time away without stressing over orders. And more importantly?

My customers still got the same level of care and service they always expect from me.

✨ Final Thoughts: Communication is Queen

If you take one thing away from this post, let it be this:

Communication makes all the difference.

You don’t have to pretend you’re chained to your shipping table 24/7.

You just have to be clear, kind, and proactive with your customers.

That’s what turns a transaction into a real connection.

So go on that weekend trip. Be present for your family. Live your life.

Just bring your customer service sparkle with you.

Until next time,

Jecca 💕
